Where’s the Patient’s Voice in Health Professional Education 20 years on?
The conference is about practice, innovation and theory that embeds the patient/client voice in health and social care education. It is an opportunity to share examples of how health and social care education be enriched by patient involvement. Over three days, participants will present examples of collaborations between educators and patient/community groups that bring the authentic and autonomous voices and lived experiences of patients into the education of current and future health and social care professionals.
Conference topics will focus on patient/community involvement in health and social care education and may include:
- Patients as teachers
- Involving patients in interprofessional/ team-based education
- Outcomes of patient involvement
- Recognition and support for patient/community educators
- Approaches to increasing diversity of patients involved in education
- Accreditation standards, policies and government directives, best practices for patient involvement
- Sustainability of patient involvement in challenging times
- Involvement of patients throughout the continuum of learning
- Patient and community involvement in admissions, curriculum, assessment, academic conferences, etc.
- Health advocacy, social determinants of health, cultural humility / safety
- Approaches to patient involvement from classroom to clinic, virtual and in-person
- Community-university partnerships
