Building Safer Spaces: Healthcare for Trans and Gender-Diverse People
Jan 15 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
In Person
Patient and Community Partnership for Education (PCPE), in collaboration with Family Services of the North Shore, invites you to a community-led interprofessional workshop featuring an incredible panel, including transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals, caregivers, and a community partner. Through powerful personal stories and small group discussions, participants will gain insight into the diverse identities, experiences, and healthcare journeys of TGD individuals and families. This interactive session will explore how personal and professional stereotypes shape care delivery and the healthcare system, while offering space for curiosity, questions, and connection. By the end of the session, participants will be better equipped to give examples of the diverse identities and experiences within TGD communities, including stories of coming out and navigating healthcare. Participants will also gain an understanding of intersectionality as a framework for appreciating the social contexts that shape TGD people’s lives, both within and beyond healthcare settings. Through the personal narratives shared and group discussions, students will hear about real-world experiences with healthcare providers—what respectful, equitable, and affirming care looks like, as well as examples of interactions that have felt oppressive or problematic.
