Wall of Fame Award: Bill Godolphin Recognized for Career Achievements

On September 13th, Bill Godolphin was honoured by his alma mater, Brandon University (Brandon College, B.Sc. 1962), for his groundbreaking work with Angela Towle to bring the authentic and autonomous voices of patients into health professional education. Their work in the area of shared decision-making led them to co-found Patient & Community Partnership for Education in the Office of UBC Health.

True trailblazers and champions of novel approaches to teaching and learning they have built a network of over 150 patients and community organizations. Their internationally renowned Interprofessional Health Mentors Program is now in 5 countries around the world. They organized groundbreaking international conferences on the theme of ‘Where’s the Patient’s Voice in Health Professional Education’ in 2005 and 2015 sparking a global movement to embed the patient’s voice in health professional education. Now, they are planning the 3rd conference which will take place in November.

Together they have been awarded over $1.25M in research and development grants that have resulted in sustained educational initiatives and a growing evidence base for the involvement of patients and the public in health professional education.

The Wall of Fame award recognizes outstanding career achievements by Brandon University alumni. Congratulations Bill (and Angela) for this well-deserved recognition of 30+ years for exemplary contributions to health professional education!
