Patient & Community Voices: Caregivers Workshop

On November 28th, A Caregiver’s Journey: Heartbreak and Love was held at Vancouver General Hospital. An interprofessional group of students joined the workshop to learn from the firsthand experiences of a panel of four caregivers.

The workshop gave students valuable insights into the perspectives of family caregivers—an experience they may not have encountered before in their education. Students shared that hearing real stories from community educators was incredibly impactful, encouraging them to reflect on how they approach and serve patients in their practice. It helped them realize the importance of not only caring for patients, but also considering the well-being of the caregivers who support them. One student remarked:

“Being that this was the first Patient & Community Voices Workshop that I have attended, I learned a lot and thought that it was a very valuable experience. Hearing from the perspective of the primary caregiver has emphasized the importance of getting to know patients on a personal level.”

We have many more patient-led workshops in 2025 that health professional students can join!
