Health Mentors Goes North!

On October 7th, we hosted our first in-person Interprofessional Health Mentor Program Orientation at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George. After a successful pilot with one in-person group last year, we were thrilled to more than double that number!

Fourteen students from UBC’s distributed Medical, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy programs in the North were matched with Health Mentors from the area. Over the next 9 months the groups will learn about what it’s like to live with chronic disease and disability in the community of Prince George. For many, this was their first opportunity to dive into discussions about person-centered care from the perspective of those who live it every day.

We look forward to continuing this in-person offering in Prince George and exploring more ways to support student and patient engagement across the province. Thank you to everyone who helped make this session possible — especially the mentors who continue to shape future health professionals with their insights and experiences.

Together, we are building a stronger, more compassionate healthcare system — one relationship at a time.
