2025 Kerston Community Educator Award Recipients Announced: Melody, Tyrone & Lyndon Brown

The UBC Health Awards Committee has announced the recipients of the 2025 R. Paul Kerston award for outstanding community educators who have expanded student learning beyond traditional professional boundaries and made a difference to student learning in health and human service programs at UBC.

Melody Brown and her sons, Lyndon and Tyrone, have been Health Mentors since 2014, mentoring 27 students from 8 health professional programs. Since Lyndon and Tyrone are non-verbal, they share their experiences through poetry and presentations set to music and Melody shares her perspectives as a caregiver. Melody also helped develop and facilitates an annual Caregivers’ workshop as part of the Patient & Community Voices workshop series. Congratulations Melody, Tyrone & Lyndon!

The trio will be honoured at the annual UBC Health Awards reception in June. Watch for the next call for nominations in the Fall.
