Expert by Lived Experience

Are you passionate about improving health care and education? As an Expert by Lived Experience with PCPE, you’ll have the opportunity to share your unique health care experiences-either as someone with lived experience managing your health journey or as a caregiver supporting someone through their health journey.

By joining our pool of Expert Partners, you’ll receive occasional emails from PCPE inviting you to participate in various opportunities, with the flexibility to choose those that align with your interests and availability. Your insights will help shape the learning of UBC students training to become healthcare professionals and contribute to meaningful change in health care education.

Expert by Experience opportunities might be:

Student educational workshops: Interactive sessions where students engage with Patient Partners to develop specific knowledge or skills relevant to their field of study.
Special projects: Initiatives, often involving collaboration between students, faculty, and community partners.
Focus groups: Gather feedback, insights, or perspectives on specific issues or projects.
Committees: Guide decisions, policies, or initiatives within a particular area.
Student led projects: Initiatives designed and managed by students.

We’re looking for applicants with the following skills:

Rich experience with health care, health systems, or health inequities.
Thoughtfulness and the ability to deliver personal stories that contribute to educational learning.
The ability to relate personal experiences, both positive and challenging, with the goal of helping UBC Health Professional students learn.
Strong communication skills, offering input from an Expert by Experience’s perspective, whether as an:
- Individual Expert by Experience, sharing firsthand experiences with health care.
- Caregiver, sharing knowledge from supporting someone through their health journey.
