Our Patient and Community Voices Workshop series in conjunction with the Indian Residential School Survivor Society invites you to a community-led interprofessional workshop. This unique opportunity will allow students to hear directly from a survivor of the Indian Residential School system, offering a powerful and personal perspective. Participants will engage in thought-provoking discussions surrounding both professional and personal stereotypes, exploring how these perceptions impact care delivery and the broader healthcare system. The workshop will also delve into the historical roots of the Indian Residential School system and its profound, lasting effects on Indigenous communities across Canada. In addition, students will reflect on the essential role healthcare providers can play in advancing reconciliation efforts, emphasizing the importance of cultural competency and empathy in providing equitable care.
