Welcome: Dr. Sharmila Anandasabapathy Appointed Vice-President, Health and Dean, Faculty of Medicine

We are pleased to introduce Dr. Sharmila Anandasabapathy who was appointed as the Dean of the UBC Faculty of Medicine and Vice-President, Health on June 23rd.

Dr. “Ananda,” as her patients call her, is a clinician-scientist with expertise in cancer detection, biomedical innovation, and global health equity. She comes to UBC from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas where she is a Professor of Medicine in Gastroenterology and Vice President and Senior Associate Dean, Global Programs.

“We live in extraordinary times, both in terms of the challenges to human health but also the capabilities of modern science and medicine,” says Dr. Anandasabapathy. “UBC is an extraordinary place: the culture, people, academic depth and breadth, and global vision. I am truly humbled by the opportunity to be a part of the UBC community and work collaboratively to deliver meaningful impact.”

We thank Dr. Dermot Kelleher for his leadership over the past decade and look forward to working with Dr. Anandasabapathy when she begins her 5-year term starting November 1st.
